There are so many things that you need to do to be successful on twitch and I’m going to break it down as best as possible. Being a new streamer you need to understand it is going to be difficult. You can not jus start streaming and expect to become a streamer.
To become a popular streamer you have to have the personality to do so. You can’t just sit in your computer chair and play games. Streamers have to be able to connect with their viewers. The viewer needs to feel like they are “friends” with the streamer.
With the amount of streamers there are steaming now, lazy twitch streamers just will not cut it. You have to always be engaging the audience. It is a lot more work than people think. It’s exhausting on your mind and body streaming for over eight hours a day. It honestly take a lot of hard work grow your twitch channel.

Your twitch channel has to match you as a streamer
When you’re playing games you need to think about the viewers, not just playing video games. It’s a good idea for the twitch channel to have a theme. You’ll notice all big streamers great branding, so they have the same color scheme throughout their twitch channel and all of their social media profiles.
You stream has to have a consistent schedule. If you are not consistent with your schedule, your viewers will not be coming back. It’s a good idea for you to end your stream by telling them when you will be live again.
Building a community is Important for Streaming
This is not limited to Twitch as well. You can build a community anywhere and bring the viewers to your twitch channel. If you have a big following on twitter, make sure you post when you go live with a link to your stream. It’s a great way for your followers to keep up to date with you.
As a twitch streamer building a community is one of the most important things you can do. Even if you are starting from scratch, gaining a single loyal follower a day could grow your stream very quickly.
Think of the community as a big group of friends. You want your followers to be like kind of people you’d like to hang out with. This is going to keep streaming from becoming a job you hate.
New streamers need to understand that streaming is a lot more than playing a game
One of the biggest misconceptions about streaming is that it is easy. It is almost impossible to become a popular streamer overnight. It takes a lot of dedication for your channel to grow and gain followers. The gaming content that you put out has to be enjoyable for not only you, but every person watching you stream.
New streamers should start a discord channel for their community. You can join in the conversation with your viewers so they can get to know you better. The more they engage with your personality, the likely of them coming back increases.
Things you need to be a successful twitch streamer
When you first start streaming there are not a lot of things that you’ll need. A basic PC that can handle streaming while playing video games, and a microphone. Most gaming headsets have a mic and most gamers already have that.
A webcam is optional, but I strongly encourage you to have one. It’s a proven fact that viewers will connect with you if they can see your face. It shows the viewers that you are a real person and they will relate with you more.
Viewers also like to see the streamers reaction when they are playing games, especially if it’s a horror game. Again, growing the connection between the audience and streamer. Most of the popular streamers that have success do have a webcam.
I strongly suggest you to encourage your viewers to clip your stream too. Those clips can be used for YouTube videos and it will make your life a lot easier. Most streamers just use the twitch clips as their YouTube videos.
When you first start streaming, I think it is a good idea to be a variety streamer. But as your channel grows, it’s best to stick with one game, as long as you are enjoying it.
I also recommend that you start hosting channels that are larger than yours. This will help you get noticed by more people. Don’t go straight to the most popular streamer, but pick the people above you in your same category.
And lastly, it is important that you let the viewers in on your “personal life”. You’ll notice that most of the top streamers stop sharing personal lives, but it is important to let people get to know you. As previously mentioned, people need to connect with you. The deeper the connection, the more they are willing to invest, weather that’s time watching, or tips.
Things that Twitch Streamers should not do
There are things that a twitch streamer should not do. That includes things like bragging about how much money they have, being toxic towards another streamer, and bad mouthing a game. Your audience does will not connect to a toxic person.
Your channel needs to look professional. You don’t want to use overlays that you made in MS paint. If you don’t put effort into your streams, then your audience will notice.
Additionally, have a neat background. Liking like a star from the hoarders show is not appealing to watch, which is why that show was cancelled. You don’t want to distract your viewers with a huge mess in your background. If necessary, you can use a green screen to hide your background. It is a very simple and cheap fix to the problem.
