How To Make Someone A Mod On Twitch

Keeping Twitch users engaged on your channel takes a lot of time and hard work. A Twitch streamer needs to create new creative and interactive to have more members join your channel, have their video and audio sync better, and when the number of users following their Twitch channel grows large, their need to have moderation on their jam-packed channel.

They don’t need to do it alone, though. Although, there are chat bots that can help you, but a chat bot isn’t that reliable in detecting abusive messages and ban a member for it in your Twitch community. A streamer now can make someone a moderator or mod on Twitch so they could focus on the game or making users entertained.

The moderator should ensure that their Twitch community isn’t violating any community rules. Their new mod can catch and ban a user spewing negative messages, or ban a user posting links.

This article won’t just teach how to mod someone on Twitch, but also gives you tips in creating channels that boost your bits with the perfect stream.  We wrote a whole article about Twitch Mod Commands that’s definitely worth the read!

The Steps to “Mod” Someone on Twitch

Streamers have two ways to make someone a mod on Twitch, and both are easy to do.

Make someone a mod by using chat commands or the /mod command.

  1. Start streaming on your Twitch channels.
  2. Search for the person you want to have a user have mod privileges in the chat.
  3. Type “/mod [username]”(that’s without the quotation marks”) in the chatbox. For example, you can make TwitchUser12 by typing /mod TwitchUser12 on the chatbox.

Mod someone on Twitch by using mouse commands

  1. Start streaming on your Twitch channel
  2. Search for the person you want to mod on Twitch and click on their username.
  3. An icon of a person with a plus (+) sign will appear, and click on it.

Once you make someone a mod on Twitch, you will see a green sword icon next to their name.

How to unmod your current moderators

In case one of your moderators abuses their banning powers or isn’t doing enough to ensure that everybody is following the community rules or is slow in detecting unruly followers, you can have someone unmod on your Twitch channels. Here’s how easy it is:

 By using chat commands

  1. Start streaming on your Twitch channel
  2. Type “/mods” on the chatbox, and you should see a list of moderators or mods currently in your channel.
  3. Find the username of that person whose rights of being a moderator you want to move.
  4. Type “/unmod [username]”.
  5. You should receive a message saying you successfully removed someone’s mod privileges

By going to your account’s dashboard.

  1. On your account, go to your dashboard.
  2. Click on the Hamburger menu( ≡ ).
  3. Click Community.
  4. Then Click “Roles Manager”
  5. You should see an “x” next to their name and click it to remove the moderator’s chat moderation privileges.

In the “Roles Manager,” you can have the changes you want to create in a role every user has in your community.

What Makes A Good Twitch Moderator

As a streamer, your goal is to have every user entertained by your streams or content. However, the atmosphere in your community’s chat room is as important as having great content to stream on your channel. That’s why you need mods who will manage and ensure that the chatroom experience is fun for everyone.

The number of mods on your channel depends on how large your Twitch community is, obviously. Your one mod might not efficiently manage and maintain the kind of chat environment you want, so hire multiple mods as needed.

Here are a few tips in not just choosing a mod that handles spam, that assigning a mod to someone who will do more in making your channel get more viewers.

  • Choose a trustworthy user. Someone you know who won’t abuse their given authority.
  • Regularly interacts with other users. Choose a person who can keep up with your stream while keeping up with the concerns of everyone in the chat.
  • Welcome a new user to your channel.
  • Support you as you stream.
  • Maintain a lively chatroom and encourages every user to cheer you as you stream

The Chat Bots That All Twitch Channels and Their Mods Need

A chat bot makes mods’ jobs easier. When your stream has thousands or even just hundreds of viewers, your human mods will surely not able to filter messages sent by the multitude of your subscribers.

This is where chat bots come in. They ensure that all those abusive behavior and negative messages are tracked, and your mods can ban, block or suspend the viewers who sent those messages.

We won’t confuse you with a long list of chat bots, instead we’re giving you every chat bot that every experienced Twitch user recommends. These users say they all need two kind of bots to ensure their focus is on their viewers.

The Big Three

Here is an article about all of the important Twitch Extensions.

Nightbot

This bot doesn’t just act as mod for detecting spam, but also has the features of letting subscribers choose songs, has a “giveaway” system, and has a “timer” which automatically send messages to the chat on an interval which is good for promoting your social media account, for example like twitter, and get more followers.

Moobot

Moobot is a great mod robot if you want to pay attention to your bots as less as possible. It has the flexibility of adding any command you want to have in your stream. It has pools, raffles, and giveaways, too.

Xanbot

This mob robot has the flexibility to configure any commands, and takes little time to learn and easy to use, so it’s perfect for everyone who has a busy schedule.

Choose The Chat Bot That Handles Chat Moderation

 Ohbot

Aside from moderating messages from your subscribers, this mod robot also detects malware links and prevents it from spreading in the chat.

Ackbot

This moderator robot can schedule and repeat commands. This is great for mobile users, as well, since it has moderation commands for mobile moderating.

Having One Mod Won’t Ensure Your Channels’ Success

If you don’t assign multiple mods, you’re not doing everything you can in growing your channel. Reliable mods are as important as an engaging video for streamers, and bots are as important as well. In picking bots, ensure that those bots will provide you with every command available to have your Twitch experience a successful one.

If you’re interested in being successful on Twitch, then you need to read this.

Conclusion

Obviously, this article is more just about the /mod [username] command or making someone a moderator. As a Twitch user myself, ensure you’re using quality equipment to record your videos, run contests, play the right games, offer your viewers value, interact with your subscribers, promote your channel on every medium, and work with other streamers.

Whatever content you want to choose to concentrate on, ensure that you’re being relevant, and your content is timely. This means you need to keep up with the trends. You can know what games are trending by doing the proper search, and joining communities or discords. Also, be more generous to your followers than the day before.

It will do wonders for you if you are up-to-date with gaming news, and other interesting niches. Other than having relevant content, you will also have new ideas to come up with which means you can have consistency in streaming which is also important in your success.
